Archiving services

The Emilio Leofreddi Archive provides archiving services in preparation for the publication of the Catalogue Raisoné of the artist's works. This service includes the possibility of issuing certificates at collectors' requests pending the publication of the various planned volumes. Specific procedures must be followed to verify the authenticity of a work in possession and request its evaluation by the Archive Commission.

How to proceed

Required Documentation

To initiate the request for authentication of the work, it is requested that documentation be sent by ORDINARY POST to the Archive (see contact page) for initial examination:

  1. Fill in the preliminary data sheet with all its items [Attached].
  2. Provide the following photographic material

– no. 3 colour photographic prints of the front of the work (maximum size cm. 20×28);

– no. 1 colour photographic print of the back of the work without frame (maximum size cm. 20×28);

– no. 1 colour photographic print of signature and/or inscriptions if present on the work.

  1. The above images must ALSO be sent in high resolution (jpg or tiff format – resolution of at least 300 dpi) to email archivio@emilioleofreddi.
  2. Also provide copies of any documents (essays, articles, reviews, invitations, press releases, exhibition loan sheets, etc.) in which the work is reproduced or quoted.
  3. Send a copy of the bank transfer payment slip (see “costs” and “bank details” below) for the examination of the works and the possible issue of the certificate of archiving.  The requested payment should be understood as a lump sum reimbursement for the costs and activities related to the consultancy. Even if the works are not attributable to Emilio Leofreddi, the payment shall not be returned.

Please note that:

– The request for examination of the work must be completed and signed by the applicant, who is also responsible for paying the relevant fees.

– If the applicant is not the legal owner, the latter must additionally sign the form to confirm this.

– Photocopied forms will not be accepted; the owner’s signature must be original.

Appraisal Session

In addition to the required documentation, the Archive requests that the work be presented (by appointment) for examination by the Technical Committee at its premises, chaired by Marina Mesnic and Asia Leofreddi. The opinion of the Archive will be communicated using a certificate, indicating the work's attribution or lack of attribution. On the day of the examination, the works must be unframed to allow complete inspection of the front and back or must be accompanied by a declaration from the owner authorising the Archive to remove any elements that might compromise the examination. No financial appraisal of the works is provided, nor will they be sold.
